The Dress Fitting

More than a month ago I went for my first wedding dress fitting at Robyn Roberts Bridal Wear Studio.  I went by myself to everyone’s dismay (family and bridesmaids) as they all would have loved to tag along. I do believe that before you go try on dresses, you have to get yourself into “wedding mode”. Rushing out during my lunch hour and watching the clock would make me feel stressed and really pressured. Luckily, I remembered  an outfit inspiration post from the Pretty Blog on what to wear for a wedding dress fitting (see below) which helped to make me a little more prepared.

I really wanted to be comfortable and have an ensemble that can be easily taken off and put on again. I paired a light cotton shirt, knotted at the waist, with a pair of black pants and flat black pumps. Underneath it all, I wore nude and seamless  underwear from Women’s Secret (my favourite store for all my intimates). You really do need good seamless underwear when trying on silks, chiffons or strapless wedding dresses! I took my wedding shoes with as well to try on with all the dresses.

Another great tip from the pretty blog is to keep jewellery and makeup to a minimum- all the dresses I tried on were put on overhead, with the help of Robyn’s assistant, and it would have been terrible to have hooked on any lace or embellishments or stain the dresses.

So how did the fitting go? I tried on about seven dresses and each time I thought this is the one. Robyn’s work is amazing and I really felt like all of them could be ‘the dress’ until the last dress I tried on! The other dresses were styles I thought  were what I wanted initially but the one I chose is completely different. But before I decided right there and then, Robyn took full length photographs of me in the dresses. We discussed them and then chose only three to sketch out (see sketches below). She then gave me a week to decide. I showed the pics and sketches to those close to me and I knew my instincts were right. Everyone agreed on the last dress!

A week later, I took three of my bridesmaids with to have a last try-on of the dresses. I was so excited I ended up just trying on my favourite ! I really felt comfortable, supported and beautiful in the dress I chose… and unfortunately I can’t share any more details!

xxx Sasha (and Angus)

P.S. I am excited because in the next few weeks my bridesmaids will share their inspiration behind their dresses!
